A Synopsis of the 2002 Early Reading First Project Grantees (Department of Education)

     Early Reading First provides funding and support to turn preschool programs into centers of excellence by improving instruction and classroom environments through scientific research-based practices in language, cognition and early reading. Summaries of the first thirty programs to be funded are provided.


PLA and ALSC's Preschool Literacy Initiative (American Library Association)

     A model research-based program enlists parents and caregivers as partners in preparing their children for learning to read and provides the most effective methods to achieve this end. The unique structure focuses on the distinctive phases of a young child’s emergent literacy – pretalkers, talkers and pre-readers.
